Greenpeace says the success of the Beijing Olympic Games may be judged on the city's environmental standards.
China has spent billions of US dollars trying to clean-up Beijing… as Amanda Mogan reports.
Beijing won the Olympic bid in 2001 and the Beijing Olympic Committee set targets to clean-up the environment. Since then Beijing's air pollution has been the subject of continued attention. Measures have been taken to improve the air quality; a steel factory has been relocated, coal-fired boilers have been shut down and about a million cars will be taken off the roads. But Lo Sze Ping from Greenpeace says it's not enough. THESE ARE MEANINGLESS MEASURES. THEY MAY BE ABLE TO CONTRIBUTE FOR THE TWO WEEKS. BUT IT'S NOT GOING TO HAVE A SUSTAINABLE IMPACT IN CHINA.
