Japanese business confidence has slumped to the lowest level in more than four years.
The decline has been generated by soaring raw material costs, a weaker economy and a stronger yen.
A recent survey by Japan's central bank has found top executives have grown more pessimistic about the outlook for profits.
The Bank of Japan says companies also remain cautious about increasing investment in new plants and factories.
