Melbourne company fined over Chinese worker exploitation.

The Australian Government has welcomed a 100-thousand Australian dollar fine imposed on a Melbourne company which exploited migrant workers from China.

Lakeside Packaging was found guilty of seven breaches of Victorian workplace safety laws.

The company forced two temporary skilled workers on the 457-visa scheme to operate unsafe equipment, causing injury.

One of the worker's suffered a crushed arm, while the other man broke his wrist and was ordered to keep working five days later.

Australia's Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Chris Evans, says the penalty should send a message to all employers that health and safety laws should apply equally to migrant workers as they do to Australians.
