Inspecting Great Barrier Reef!

Australia's Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has used a visit to the Great Barrier Reef off the north-east coast to sell his government's plans for a carbon emissions trading scheme.

Liam Fox reports from Far North Queensland...

Kevin Rudd and his Climate Change Minister Penny Wong headed to the tourist town of Port Douglas north of Cairns this morning. They boarded a boat and inspected coral that's recovering from a bleaching event around the Low Isles just off the coast. Marine scientists told him bleaching caused by rising sea temperatures is only a relatively recent phenomenon and it's frequency and intensity is increasing. Prompting the Prime Minister to promote his government's recently announced carbon pollution reduction scheme. This represents a clear pathway forward for the nation.
